Sexuality, Gender, and Spirituality
Sexuality and gender are such a profoundly defining aspect of our identities. When we are made to feel unseen, misunderstood, or, worse, less valuable because of these identities, tremendous harm can be done.
LGBTQIA+ Concerns
The challenges that members of sexual and gender minority communities encounter are many, varied, complex, intersecting, and real. They affect us physically, emotionally, relationally, socially, and existentially.
As a member of this community (I am a gay man whose pronouns are he/him/his), my goal is to work with you to transform the pain of marginalization, isolation, fear, and hatred into inner peace, connectedness, stability, joy, and, yes, pride.
You are unique, and your experience is your own. I will honor that by humbly helping you discover and align your life to your values, no matter where you are in your personal journey, even if you don’t yet know where that is. Or, if you have been living loud and proud in this community for decades, you might feel the need to address some of the hurt you’ve received along the way. I would be honored to help you navigate through that process.
Religious & Spiritual Trauma
While many religious traditions and organizations aim to make the world a more loving place, it is an unfortunate reality that, where there is power, there is potential for abuse. This is especially true when communities are aligned with one another on the basis of doctrine, claiming access to unquestionable truths, or offering singular paths to the divine.
Many people receive damaging messages about their unworthiness, their impotence, or their futility. The truth is that a fulfilling spiritual life, including one which does or does not espouse a deity, is available on the other side. Connection to a community, a family, and even yourself can be healthy, uplifting, and deeply satisfying. If you would like help healing from a harmful spiritual experience in order to discover your new truths, I would be honored to assist.
